The aides, the housekeepers, the cooks, the schedulers, the social workers, the department directors, the administrators, and so many others behind the scenes, who hold it together.
The work is hard, the rules are many, and nearly everyone doing it is doing their best with what they were given.
What they were given is often a binder.
Binders with training bought off a shelf.
Binders with minutes from every meeting the regulation calls for, most of them a sign-in sheet with no record of what was actually said.
The record says the training happened.
It cannot prove that they understand it, know why it is necessary, or can carry it out as intended.
None of it was built for this building, these residents, or these staff.
We go deeper than generic policies, off-the-shelf training, and regulations nobody has the time to track down and interpret.
Deeper means knowing what a regulation actually requires in your building, not what it says in general.
It means staff who learn why a requirement exists and what is at stake when it is not met.
It means a quality program that, done right, runs your building. Not just binders to maintain.
The range is deliberate.
A misunderstood regulation, shallow training, a missing or irrelevant policy: a strong quality program should find and correct all three long before any of them becomes a citation.
The work does not stop at the building. Treversal attends many of the meetings where Delaware’s long-term care policy takes shape.
